Signs And Flyers

"MATERIALS FOR LARGE SIGNS"
  • The most effective Signs for outside are Large and Colorful with a few key phrases.  Neon colored poster board you can buy at Costless Pharmacy holds up well in our rainy weather.
  • Waterproof Sharpies.
  • A picture of the animal. If you don't have a printer or a scanner, make a color photocopy at Office Depot in Gig Harbor for .59 cents or use the copy machine at the Key Center Library.
  • Thumbtacks.
  • Clear Postal Tape purchased from the Post Office to put over the entire picture. This helps to protect your photo from our rainy weather.

"MATERIALS FOR FLYERS"
  • If you don't have a computer program that can create a Flyer, use construction paper. It's thicker and holds up better than regular paper.
  • Some glue or postal tape and a Sharpie.
  • Make color copies at Office Depot in Gig Harbor or use the copy machine at the Key Center Library.
  • If you are posting a flyer outside, place your flyer into a large clear plastic freezer bag.  It will protect it from our rain.

"KEEP IT SIMPLE"

Choose one word at the top to get people's attention such as; Lost, Found, Missing, Reward in big bold letters.

A Large good picture of the Animal and underneath a short description.  The majority of people will only glance at your Sign or Flyer. Keep the wording very basic.

Lastly your contact information. Make it as big and bold and easy to read. Some people are leery of having their phone number posted on a Sign or Flyer so an email is an alternative. But I have met many retired people on the Peninsula who only have a landline and no internet access. So keep this in mind.

"WHERE TO POST SIGNS AND FLYERS"

Telephone poles are great for larger Signs along roads and much easier for people to notice in vehicles.

Flyers are best used for businesses and Community Centers that will allow you to post a Lost/Found Notice. Many have public bulletin boards but they can get overcrowded, so check them often to make sure your flyer is still noticeable.
